Make Texas Hill Country your next getaway

After spending a few days at one of our Texas Hill Country cabins, you'll understand the appeal of the Lone Star State's unique and varied countryside. From shimmering lakes to the Cowboy Capital of the World, these vacation rentals will suit your fine Western tastes and your ache for adventure either alone or with loved ones.

Where Is Texas Hill Country?

Located just south of the heart of Texas, Hill Country is famous for its tall, rolling hills with layers of granite and limestone. Its "karst" topography (topography formed by the dissolution of minerals like limestone) has manifested into interesting caverns and springs in unique places, making this a unique and beautiful landscape.

Texas Hill Country is framed by two of Texas's big cities: progressive, quirky Austin, and cultural, traditional San Antonio.

Things to Do in Texas Hill Country

In the sprawling Texas Hill Country, nature will spoil you in gorgeous abundance: wide fields overflowing with flowers and trees, gently rolling hills, and miles and miles of lakeside splendor.

Go bird watching for the elusive Gold-cheeked Warbler in Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Preserve, or enjoy aquatic recreation in the towns of Lago Vista and Kingsland—they offer everything from kayaking to fishing to SUP boarding to hang gliding.

The tiny towns that populate this region are perfect for the history buff keen on tracing the steps of former presidents and infamous cowboys. Check out the interactive Visitors Center at LBJ State Park & Historic Site, with enclosures full of local wildlife like Texas Longhorns and American Bison.

Fredericksburg is a charming town with a modern affection for microbrews . Beer aficionados will want to swing by for tastings and pub grub at Pedernales Brewing Company, Fredericksburg Brewing Company, and Fritztown Cinema.

The Cowboy Capital of the World, Bandera, is a quirky little town full of authentic Western hospitality. Guests will relish the reenactments of shootouts, rodeos, and a modern cowboy lifestyle - you may spot a horse or a chuck wagon parked next to a car while in town!

Music lovers rejoice—it isn't just Austin that's known for its incredible music. Bandera has its own Music Hall of Fame and offers live shows almost every night of the week, plus dancing and honky-tonks aplenty.

Speaking of Austin, Vacasa's Texas Hill Country vacation rentals make for great SXSW lodging, a huge festival that takes place in Austin. Stay in Texas Hill Country for San Antonio's FIESTA.

Texas Hill Country Wineries

Though Texas is known for great barbecue and beautiful landscapes, many visitors are surprised to learn that Texas Hill Country is also known globally for its excellent wineries. The most popular vineyards are located along 290 East toward Fredericksburg, often referred to as Fredericksburg Wine Road 290.

Depending on the season of your visit, you can attend grape stomps and tastings, live music events, or a variety of other happenings at any of the local vineyards or wineries. Some of the more popular locations include Fiesta Winery, Flat Creek Estate, Torri Di Pietra, and 4 Point 0 Cellars.

During your next trip, be sure to take the road less traveled and spend some time getting to know the tiny towns that make Texas a microcosm of America.

When you stay in one (or several!) of our Texas Hill Country cabins, you'll have the opportunity to experience the rugged beauty and inviting atmosphere that these Texas towns have to offer. Book today for a one of a kind experience!

Our dog loved the big backyard

This home was very welcoming. There was plenty of room for my family. We loved the water view and seeing so many deer in the neighborhood was amazing. I would highly recommend staying at this home.

My son lives in Austin, Texas and we were there to watch our grandchildren. Lake LBJ is about an hour away so, we decided to rent Water View Retreat for a long weekend and let the kids fish, kayak and play outside. It was exactly what we needed, and the listings description is accurate. The home is clean, lovely decor, comfortable beds, and a well-appointed kitchen. This place is quiet, perfect for coffee in the morning, and wine by the water in the evening. My grandkids never got bored and we felt good about them not being on their phones all the time. That being said, the place has great Wi-Fi. The single story is wonderful for us older folks and my husband played 18 holes on the nearby golf course. We will rent here again. Next time we plan to bring the entire family and rent both sides of the duplex. The price is affordable and a good value.
