I wanted a place with a view and a relaxing vibe. I got all that. Everything was perfect. I will definitely return again.

We live in Austin but decided that we needed a change or scenery. This fit the bill to a T. Great relaxing property - close to wineries, restaurants and shopping. Dog friendly and 2 king beds made this place perfect for our 2 couples. We will be back!

We had a good stay. Great house. Conveniently located, plenty of room for all of us to relax and hang out while visiting our son that’s stationed there. My only complaint is that I noticed dog hair and it was my understanding that no pets were allowed. That’s one of the reasons I picked this house, because I have pet allergies and I thought I was going to be safe. So I ended up taking more allergy medicine and cleaning the animal hair. Other than that, I would consider staying here again.

Where Is Texas Hill Country?

Located just south of the heart of Texas, Hill Country is famous for its tall, rolling hills with layers of granite and limestone. Its "karst" topography (topography formed by the dissolution of minerals like limestone) has manifested into interesting caverns and springs in unique places, making this a unique and beautiful landscape.

Texas Hill Country is framed by two of Texas's big cities: progressive, quirky Austin, and cultural, traditional San Antonio.

Things to Do in Texas Hill Country

In the sprawling Texas Hill Country, nature will spoil you in gorgeous abundance: wide fields overflowing with flowers and trees, gently rolling hills, and miles and miles of lakeside splendor.

Go bird watching for the elusive Gold-cheeked Warbler in Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Preserve, or enjoy aquatic recreation in the towns of Lago Vista and Kingsland—they offer everything from kayaking to fishing to SUP boarding to hang gliding.

The tiny towns that populate this region are perfect for the history buff keen on tracing the steps of former presidents and infamous cowboys. Check out the interactive Visitors Center at LBJ State Park & Historic Site, with enclosures full of local wildlife like Texas Longhorns and American Bison.

Fredericksburg is a charming town with a modern affection for microbrews. Beer aficionados will want to swing by for tastings and pub grub at Pedernales Brewing Company, Fredericksburg Brewing Company, and Fritztown Cinema.

The Cowboy Capital of the World, Bandera, is a quirky little town full of authentic Western hospitality. Guests will relish the reenactments of shootouts, rodeos, and a modern cowboy lifestyle - you may spot a horse or a chuck wagon parked next to a car while in town!

Music lovers rejoice—it isn't just Austin that's known for its incredible music. Bandera has its own Music Hall of Fame and offers live shows almost every night of the week, plus dancing and honky-tonks aplenty.

Speaking of Austin, Vacasa's Texas Hill Country vacation rentals make for great SXSW lodging, a huge festival that takes place in Austin. Stay in Texas Hill Country for San Antonio's FIESTA.
