Recent South Haven guest reviews

Our recent stay at the Dream Haven Cottage was absolutely wonderful! The home was clean, maintained, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable visit. The attention to detail and cozy atmosphere made it feel like a true home away from home. We had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a seamless and relaxing getaway!

Our family had an incredible week ringing in the New Year at Appy Place. We brought our 3 kids (12, 7, and 6) and parents to relax and enjoy some lake air the week between Christmas and New Years. The week was everything we hoped it would be and more. Kim was an incredible host and very responsive anytime we had any questions. She gave us a lot of great family-favorite recommendations for the surrounding area. The house is located in a quiet, gated community and was incredibly warm and inviting and had an immense amount of space for the kids to play, puzzle-time, board games, and football watching for the guys. We loved walking down to the private beach for some chilled lake time. Our kids loved running around on the sand and finding different rocks along the shore line every morning. The location was also within short driving distance of downtown South Haven. We always start our day with coffee and breakfast at Julia’s and love walking around the town and exploring some of the local shops. …And all of our favorite dining spots are still open throughout the Winter. We highly recommend Tello, The Lodge, and 3 Blondes Brewery (Sunday gluten-free fried chicken night was a delightful surprise to this GF mama!!). I personally like doing a coffee crawl while I’m in town and making sure I always stop by WE and The Flying Sauce at least a couple times in addition to my morning at Julia’s. The Michigan Theater is always a top request from our kids – we actually went twice while we were in town for some great movies and the most affordable movie snacks you’ll ever find! We also highly recommend going over to the Root Café for fresh, hot beignets (with the lemon curd) or to Crane’s for the Pie flight!! This was our first time ringing in the New Year at the SoHa New Year’s Eve party! Our entire family had so much fun – we rode a mechanical bull, got free hot chocolate bombs from the Michigan Theater, introduced the kids to pinball machines at the Rocket Arcade, and danced with the Michigan AutoBots at the street party while we counted down the end of the year! South Haven is our favorite Summertime spot each year but don’t sleep on it for Winter. It was an absolute gem of a week with stores, restaurants, and a ton of fun activities still available for families of all ages! Fantastic ice skating in downtown South Haven and less than an hour drive to skiing/tubing. In short, would highly recommend staying with Kim anytime of the year!

Where is South Haven, MI?

This port city rests where the Black River meets the vast waters of Lake Michigan. It’s tucked in the southwestern corner of the state, in the heart of Michigan’s wine country, where you’ll find many charming rural towns boasting local color. Saugatuck and Douglas, with their bustling arts and food scenes, are just a 20-minute drive north.

Things to do in South Haven, MI

It may come as no surprise that the abundant water activities are a big draw to our South Haven vacation rentals. There’s something for every interest, from a day adventuring in your kayak rental to strolling along the beach with someone special.

Spend an afternoon exploring the shores of Lake Michigan at North Beach, a park open year-round where you can lounge on the sand and splash through the waves in the summertime. Cooler months mean a more tranquil beach experience and peaceful sunset views.

No matter the time of year, you’ll have views of the beloved South Haven Light. Built in 1903, this lighthouse is a fixture of the community around our South Haven cabins. When the weather is right, you can walk along the pier to admire it up close. During stormy weather, the waves crashing against it are a sight to behold from the shore, and in the winter the frozen lake water leads to incredible ice formations on the lighthouse. No matter the season, a trip to the South Haven Light is a must.

If you just can’t get enough of the lake while visiting your South Haven beach rental, the Michigan Maritime Museum is a must. Not only are there interesting exhibits on South Haven’s history as a port city, but you can hop aboard a number of boat rides, from replicas of 1800s sloop ships to modern day yachts, for a day cruising the seemingly endless waters of Lake Michigan.

Our South Haven vacation rentals offer everything you need to experience this charming city and the surrounding areas of Saugatuck, Douglas, Fennville, and beyond. Browse our homes today and start planning your next trip to beautiful Lake Michigan.
