Founded in 1774 as Sudbury, Canada, Bethel is decidedly American in nature, with star-spangled flags proudly billowing in the summer breeze. The Atlantic and St. Lawrence Railroad in 1851 connected the sleepy town to bustling Portland and cosmopolitan Montreal.
