First of all, if you’re going in the winter they’re not joking, make sure you have all wheel drive and not street tires. You will need it for the road up and mostly for the driveway. We had an AWD Toyota Minivan with all terrain tires that worked great, but we also had a 4WD Toyota 4Runner with regular street tires that was sketchy on the road and wouldn’t make it up the driveway. The little castle was awesome, down to every little detail inside and out. By far the best vacation place we have ever stayed at. The heated stone floors were amazing. The indoor hot tub was used every day. Everything was like you were in a castle. This castle is pretty much ski in ski out, but it takes a little adventuring to figure it out. From the hairpin turn on the street just below the castle is the cat track. Go down, cross the road to the left of the building and pick up the track again right to the village. Coming back you can pick up the cat track half way down Gypsy over to the right. There a kind of hard to see sign that says condos. Follow that and it takes you right to the hairpin turn where you started. For the more adventurous, we took the triple all the way to the top, rode the ridge all the way to the end and at that point there’s a ski boundary exit to the right. Go out that and there’s a cat track that you can follow. Cross a snowy road and continue and then there’s a sharp right that you have to take. If you go straight at that Y you will go back to the resort. But take that right and follow the track to another crossing. Go through that and then start looking to the right. You will soon see the two castles and you can ski or board that powder right between the two from the back and you are there. Someone should make a map. We loved this place and can’t wait to do it again. So awesome. And the owner brought us a yummy dragon cake. Bonus.

Location is second to none. Condo is a true ski in ski out condo. With the village a very short walk away, restaurants and bars all within steps of the door. Also incredible view from the living room that overlooks down to the mountain (which I would assume would be the lake if it weren’t foggy)

Enjoy this comfy home with my family for a winter trip. House it just 40-45min. drive to Schweitzer were we enjoyed skiing and snowboarding for day. Kitchen is well stocked, lots of board games, enjoyed an evening fire in place with provided wood and comfy beds makes for a great stay!

Right along the northern shore, the town of Sandpoint offers visitors biking trails, hiking trails, and gorgeous scenery with a mountain backdrop. In winter, Schweitzer Mountain Resort is home to 2900 acres of skiable terrain in the Selkirk mountains. And in summer, visit both City Beach and Lakeview Park for public lake docks and gorgeous water views.

From one of our Lake Pend Oreille vacation rentals, you can sightsee easily by car, traveling along the Pend Oreille Scenic Byway or you can choose to stay close to the lake, visiting one of the region's many galleries, shops, or waterfront parks. Like the towns of Coeur d'Alene, Hayden, and Harrison to the south, Sandpoint offers hiking trails, restaurants, and a charming environment for an amazing Idaho retreat! Of course one of the best ways to explore the Lake Pend Oreille region is by boat. With miles and miles of open water, there's plenty to see, just bring your own boat, rent one, or book a charter for a tour of Buttonhook Bay, Bernard Peak, or Whiskey Rock Bay while on your Idaho vacation adventure.

Along Lake Pend Oreille, you'll also be able to spot abundant wildlife—everything from eagles to mountain goats to ospreys nesting near the water. The lake itself is home to native whitefish, char, western slope cutthroat trout and others, if you want to try your luck at fishing.

No matter how you chose to spend your time when you stay at one of our Lake Pend Oreille vacation rentals, you're sure to have fun whether it's a ski trip to Schweitzer Mountain Resort in winter or a fishing and boating getaway in summer. Come visit Idaho's biggest lake for an adventure-filled vacation surrounded by mountains, forests, and clear blue water.
