Great location, dated unit but clean and comfortable

I always just skim the 5 star and 1 star reviews, cuz the in between ones are usually the most informative. I hope you find this one useful. We stayed a couple nights in November, so Winter-ish. This place is a good base for exploring the high desert. It was very clean and fairly well stocked. However it has some quirks. I’m sure it was very nice in 1993 when I guess it was last updated. It’s got ‘family cabin that never changes’ vibes. I actually _like_ that, ymmv. There’s no fire wood. Just a stack of huge, soggy split stumps outside (uncovered). If you want a fire in the wood stove, bring your own wood, kindling, and tinder, so you don’t have to run out and get that after you arrive. The HVAC system needs work. The whole time we stayed, one half was freezing cold, one half was blazing hot. Sometimes it evens out after a day or so. Not here, so plan accordingly! Make sure the chronically cold people are in the hot room and the hot blooded people are in the cold rooms. It’s more cold than hot, so be aware of that. It’s also loud! If it kicks on in the night, it will probably wake you, or worse, the kids. We had fun, and I would stay again. (Though, Sunriver is packed with basically identical places, so there’s possibly something better out there.)
