If you're looking for a home base for exploring the winding trails and dense foliage of the Golden State's northern forests, you won't find a home base much better than Graeagle! The town is just south of Plumas National Forest, and only a few hours from Lassen. The sprawling national park features miles of trails through dense forests, as well as unique attractions thanks to the volcanic geography of the region. As nice as summertime walks through the forests can be, there's nothing quite like spending your winters near the legendary snow and skiing of Lake Tahoe. Graeagle is a mere 61 miles north of the area, and the road to Tahoe is nearly as much fun as the lake is itself. You'll wind through forests and valleys, past reservoirs and charming small towns, before eventually reaching the nearby town of Truckee.
If you time your visit just right, you can enjoy an amazing Christmas celebration, where colorful lights cast gorgeous reflections on the snow all around you. Just don't get so lost in the magic that you forget to continue onwards to Tahoe itself!
From admiring the frozen waters of the lake to careening down ski slopes in Bear Valley to the south, a winter wonderland unlike anywhere else in California awaits you.
