Where is Stowe, VT?

Stowe is located in North Central Vermont (also referred to as Mid Vermont) and is more or less equidistant from Albany, NY; Boston, MA; Hartford, CT; and Portland, ME. While it is certainly easiest to reach Stowe by car (it straddles Route 100, just a few miles north of Interstate 89), train and bus services are available in nearby Waterbury, just 10 miles south.

Things to do in Stowe, VT

Stowe's nickname is well-deserved, as the nearby Stowe Mountain Resort - comprised of two separate mountains (Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak) - sits at 4,395 feet, the highest peak in the state of Vermont and the third highest in the country. Visitors to the resort can head out on 116 different runs, across 12 terrain parks, all serviced by an extensive lift network capable of moving 15,000 guests an hour! Other wintertime offerings include romantic sleigh and carriage rides through Gentle Giants, or high-speed, backcountry, snowmobile tours with Snowmobile Vermont.

During the warmer months, Stowe hosts a number of arts and crafts shows, the summertime Stoweflake Hot Air Balloon Festival (taking place since 1987), and the weekend-long British Invasion: New England's largest British automobile show and celebration featuring classic cars, live entertainment, and traditional English eats.

When you're not relaxing in your vacation rental, it won't take much exploring to discover that Stowe is an eclectic and historical town with a thriving arts community, quaint shops, and antique stores. There are also a few excellent restaurants in town, including Harrison's Restaurant & Bar, the Bistro at Ten Acres, and McCarthy's, which has the best breakfast in town (just ask the locals)!

Day trips from Stowe, VT

Long hikes or road trips are essential once summer begets fall and the leaves start to change. Grab your camera and head out on the open roads of Vermont and enjoy spectacular vistas of bold color as far as the eye can see! Just nine miles away, right along Route 100, be sure to pull off and take a Ben & Jerry's factory tour in Westbury to see how the ice cream gets made!

Thirty-six miles west is Burlington right on the shore of Lake Champlain. Visit ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain, a world famous aquarium/science center with a number of kid-friendly interactive exhibits and more than 70 species of live animal ambassadors. Sample the wares from a number of local breweries, distilleries, and wineries. And don't forget to cast your eyes upon the World's Tallest File Cabinet alongside Flynn Avenue near Oakledge Park!

Over in Graniteville, 32 miles southeast of Stowe, you can take a guided tour of Smith Granite Quarry - a 600-foot-deep, functioning granite quarry, quite possibly the largest in the world! Then walk the factory floor to see skilled workers turn raw stone into impressive works of art.

Whether you're planning to visit for skiing, hiking, fall colors, or handcrafted, barrel-aged maple syrup, Stowe is an ideal destination that you're certain to enjoy from one of our comfortable vacation rentals.
