The community was inspired by the island city of St. Malo, located off the Brittany coast of France. St Malo features a private beach with a clubhouse cabana, summer lifeguards, a barbecue, a covered patio, a sand volleyball court, a paddle tennis court, 2 tennis courts., and 4 pickleball courts. Prince Phillip and Princess Anne stayed at St. Malo while in San Diego during their visit to the Summer Olympics in 1984. The neighborhood has a very European feel and is considered one of the best locations in Oceanside and San Diego.
