If you want to get out and do a little hiking and exploring, pack your sunscreen, a picnic lunch, and plenty of water, and make your way to Joshua Tree National Park, or head out on the trails that wind through the 25,000-acre Pioneertown Mountains Preserve, both within 40 miles of this home. Take your own sweet time and walk through the unique collection of found folk-art assemblages at the Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum, about 45 miles north.
