Named after the Salish Indian word "Tsi - Laan," meaning "Deep Water," Lake Chelan is the largest natural lake in the state of Washington and the third-largest in the United States. Each year, vacationers gather at locations on Lake Chelan and nearby Lake Entiat for weekends spent water skiing, paragliding, wine tasting, mountain biking, and more.

In 2009, Lake Chelan was established as the state's 11th AVA (American Viticultural Area), with more than 20 wineries and hundreds of acres of vineyards. Wineries dot the countryside between Chelan and its neighboring town of Manson, and visitors could spend a whole week exploring the area's offerings. If wine tasting isn't really your thing, this area also is home to a large selection of farm-fresh hard cider.
