This condo had everything we could possibly need! Supplied well with utensils, pans, pots, etc. They even had a crockpot and airfryer! Rooms were cozy. Everyone had enough space and there was plentiful of blankets for when someone felt chilly. Super close to the slopes, so very easy to get to Purgatory Resort. The hot tub just down the stairs from the unit was really nice. It did take us a minute to find the unit and make sure we were parking in the right area, so better instructions on that would be beneficial. All in all, everyone in the unit agreed we would definitely stay here again whenever visiting Purgatory!

Twilight A2 is a very cozy place to spend some time at Purgatory. While in the area we explored La Plata County, downtown Durango, and Mesa Verde National Park. There are plenty of places to eat on the mountain as well as The Nugget right down the road. With San Juan National Forest and Pinkerton Hot Spring right across the highway, to Mesa Verde National Park a little over an hour away, there is plenty to see besides the slopes of Purgatory. This apartment is perfect for the outdoorsy type who doesn’t need constant internet access as cell service and WiFi is a scarce resource throughout the resort. However, there are plenty of cable channels to find something to watch at any time. Besides the old toaster, the appliances are a little out of date, but work just fine. The coffee machine works great and coffee filters were provided. With the large fireplace, we stayed nice and warm throughout our nights when it was well below zero degrees outside. The views from the couch, kitchen, bedroom, and balcony are absolutely breathtaking. Allowing both sunrise and sunset views there’s always a sight to appreciate. Every morning we got to watch ski patrol and the avalanche dog headed up to the main village, and at sundown the groomers ran their route. You can almost touch the chairlift from the balcony, and 20 steps from the front door was a nice green run down to the Graduate lift. All around, this unit is incredible for our lifestyle and I will be coming back in the future. I’m very pleased with the pricing, the amenities, and the over all comfort of this home!

This is our second time to stay at the cabin. What initially started as a celebratory weekend with friends, turned into a nice, secluded weekend alone just my wife and I. The newly remodeled kitchen, bathrooms and flooring are really nice. The place is large enough to accommodate our friend group that we wanted to bring with us, and the bunk beds downstairs are a great place for the kids to sleep in. Since our friends could not make it, we spent the weekend snuggled by the fire watching shows. The kitchen accommodates all your needs for a nice dinner for multiple people if you decide to skip going into town. Truly a great place to stay as a base for summer and winter adventure or a nice secluded getaway for some rest and relaxation. We love this place!

Where is Durango, CO?

Only 28 miles west of its quiet neighbor Mancos, bustling Durango is the largest town in Southwest Colorado. It is home to Fort Lewis College, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, numerous outdoor adventures, and a thriving art scene with galleries, museums, music venues, and theaters, so you'll have plenty to do when you stay in one of our Durango cabins.

Durango's outdoor adventures

A big area attraction is the famous Mesa Verde National Park - just 35 miles east. Start your day with a homemade breakfast at your Durango vacation rental, then head east and up the mesa to the park. Explore Anasazi cliff dwellings and over 5,000 protected archaeological sites, or even spend the day on a backcountry hike around the mesa.

Other attractions right near Durango include gorgeous Vallecito Lake, about 18 miles from town. This beautiful blue lake within the Weminuche Wilderness Area boasts fishing and boating opportunities in summer, and in winter this wilderness area is home to activities like cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and even sleigh rides. Another nearby lake is Lemon Lake. Smaller than Vallecito, this body of water is also ideal for fishing for rainbow trout and Kokanee salmon, as well as boating, sailing, and windsurfing. You can also hike the area's pine and aspen-covered scenery, the stunning backdrop of the San Juan Mountains in the distance. And if you're feeling adventurous, bike along the Out and Back Trail for jaw-dropping views along the 26-mile road to Lemon Lake.

Want more nice-weather activities? Golfers will find three area golf courses to choose from - the Dalton Ranch Golf Club, Hillcrest Golf Club, and Hunter's Run Golf Course or take a leisurely soak in one of Durango's mineral hot springs. If you are feeling adventurous, head approximately 60 miles east to the quiet town of Pagosa Springs, home to the world's deepest geothermal hot springs.

In winter, Purgatory Resort is just 26 miles to the north for skiing and snowboarding on 85 trails. There are also nearby terrain parks for cross-country and snowshoeing, and during the holidays, you can take a Polar Express sightseeing trip on the Durango & Silverton Railroad!

Year-round, the Old West downtown area of Durango is an attraction in its own right. Take a walking tour of historic houses, visit the Discovery Kids Museum, walk along the Animas River path, or visit any number of unique shops and one-of-a-kind galleries. And on days that you don't feel like cooking back at home, head to Michael's Corner Crepes for a French-inspired lunch, Eolus Bar & Dining for a spectacular martini and prime rib dinner, or family-friendly Zia Taqueria for a quick Tex-Mex meal. This "City of Brewery Love" also has a burgeoning craft beer brewing scene, as well as a number of coffee houses for your daily caffeine fix.
